Years 1 and 2 - World Book Day

On World Book Day, the children came to school dressed as a book character and took part in a variety of cross-curricular activities throughout the day.

As the children arrived to school, they were greeted by some special visitors waiting for them around the school...

As Miss Shah was dressed as the gingerbread man, the children took part in different P.E activities to see if they can 'run run as fast as you can...'

After training so hard, the children were treated to a yummy gingerbread man!

In Mrs Lacey's class the 3 bears had come to visit so the children made some porridge using their measurement maths skills. 

They then investigated what made porridge yummy!

                                             I think everyone agreed it wasn't marmite!

Finally they got to eat it all up before Goldilocks arrived!

 We also did the disappearing gummy bear investigation - we are still rerecording our results

!

Year 1 - Zoolab

To end our science topic on a 'wow' experience, year 1 were visited by Katie from Zoolab.
We took part in an animal handling workshop. Katie spoke to us about a variety of animals such as millipedes, cockroaches and frogs. We were then able to hold and stroke the animals if we wanted. We learned some new information during the visit as well as refreshing our knowledge of animals!

Year 1 - Space Day!

To end our topic on a 'wow', year 1 held a 'Space Day' on Friday 7th February.
The children came to school dressed in space themed clothes.

In Big Write, we have been reading the story 'Toys in Space'. In the story, the toys land back on Earth after an adventure in space. In the morning the children were visited by some special guests.....

How did the toys get there? What will happen to the toys next? The children wrote their own endings to the story 'Toys in Space'.

The children also completed some space maths!

In the afternoon, the children decorated their own space biscuits and continued to make their rockets!

Year 1MS - Children's Mental Heath week.

As part of Children's Mental Health week, Miss Irvine asked us to discuss the word 'brave'.
What does brave mean and when have we been brave?

The children had some lovely examples of when they were brave such as going to their first swimming lesson or going onto a big slide at the park.

We drew a picture and wrote a sentence for Miss Irvine showing her when we have been brave.

When talking about bravery, we realised it can be quite scary going to the 'big' classes. Why not test our bravery by going up to Miss Irvine's year 3 class and handing her our work?

Well done year 1 for being brave!

1MS - Heavy and light using balances

Last lesson we recapped over the words heavy and light.
In today's maths lesson, we used balances to find items heavier and lighter than a book.

Miss Shah's Phonics group - Adjectives

We previously learned what a noun is in Miss Shah's phonics group. In today's lesson, we learned that an adjective is a describing word. We looked for nouns around the classroom and playground. We then wrote down some adjectives to describe them!
