Year 6 - World War Two Explorers

 World War Two Explorers

This week, Year 6 have been working extremely hard in our topic lessons - we are learning all about World War II.

Here are some of the things that we did this week:

We created a WWII skyline using the skill of blending colours and creating landscapes using silhouettes.

We created our own propaganda posters to encourage women to join the war effort and take on new roles as men went off to fight.

We baked chocolate cakes using a recipe that was actually written in WWII - influenced by the introduction of rationing.

Year 6 - Kandinsky Inspired Maths

As part of our home learning this week, in Maths Year 6 have been looking at angles.

We have looked at:

 acute angles
right angles
obtuse angles
straight line angles
reflex angles
full turn angles

We then used our knowledge of angles to identify them within artwork created by Kandinsky.

Here is what we found:

We then created our own Kandinsky-style artwork using various shapes, angles and colours.

Here is some of our work:

6MB's 'wonder'ful Big Writes 🤩

In 6MB, we have just started reading 'The Nowhere Emporium' by Ross MacKenzie

It is about a young Daniel Holmes who stumbles across the most amazing place... an Emporium full of magic, delight and wonder!

6MB were transported into the Emporium themselves and were left in awe the at the 'wonders' they found mysteriously taped to the bottom of their chairs!

They then used what they had discovered to create an information text on the wonder they had found.

Here are some of the wonders that they discovered:

Here is Katie's Big Write - beautifully presented, intriguing and wonderfully descriptive!
