Year 3 Remembrance work

Year 3 have worked exceptionally hard this week and have had some fantastic discussions about remembrance, gratitude and what we can do to help those who help us.

The children all made poppies to create the silhouette of the Last Tommy and Nurse Tina. The children learn that The Last Tommy was a way to remember the soldiers of the First World War which was when Remembrance Day as we know it originated from. Nurse Tina was a representation of all the NHS and military nurses/ doctors/ staff and anyone else involved. The children were told of Corporal Tina Maddams, a nurse who has served abroad as well as undertook multiple roles within the NHS. As the festival of remembrance on Saturday night (BBC) highlighted, the partnership between the NHS and the military services has been vital throughout the pandemic. The children and staff are immensely grateful and thankful for all military and emergency service workers.

The children also designed medals for NHS workers after seeing some of Corporal Maddams medals.

The year 3 team are extremely proud of all the children in year 3 for being so thoughtful and creative.

Year 3 Volcano Explosions, and a visit from Santa!

A big thank you to all the children and parents who contributed to our homework projects and made volcanoes. Some of the children's volcanoes were able to participate in a 'bicarbonate of soda and vinegar' experiment which we completed on the field today :)

Afterwards we had a Christmas quiz!
3JI vs 3RS - a really enjoyable and respectful quiz! BUT we were interrupted by Santa who had some presents to deliver!

2NL - Coronation Party

To finish our TOPIC on 'How life has changed since Queen Elizabeth came to the throne,' 2NL had a Coronation Day.

First, we designed some healthy sandwiches thinking about including all of our food groups.

Next, we made our sandwiches.

Then, we evaluated our designs and presentation of our plates of food.

After that, we had a class vote to see who would be King or Queen. Florence decided to abdicate. Heidi was next in line along with Charlie and we had a coronation ceremony were they were crowned King and Queen
They made lots of rules for the class and Mrs Lacey to follow!

Finally, we ate our food, danced and played games at the 2NL Coronation Party.

Suttons Primary School Voting Day

To promote the British Values statements of 'Democracy' and 'The Rule of Law', Suttons Primary School took part in a voting day.

The children were given 3 themes to choose between for our next dress down day which will be on Friday 24th May.

The 3 themes were:

-Rainbow day (wear as many colours as possible)
- Wear your school uniform inside out
- Pyjama Day

The voting took place on Friday 10th May. The children walked into a 'booth' which had a ballot box and ballot paper.

The children thoroughly enjoyed voting for their favourite theme. Results will be announced in Monday's assembly.

A big thank you to Mr Willis for his help during the voting.

Which theme do you think will win?
