Unfortunately after our 5 group games we didn't make it further in the competition but really enjoyed they day and gained some valuable experience!

Well done Year 5 netballers!!!

Netball - High5 Tournament

Year 5 Players -
Back Row - Reece, Ella, Wumi, Mia, Zain
Front row - Sachi, Lucy, Megan, Henry, Ruby

Today some Year 5 children went to Albany school to play in a High 5 netball tournament. It was an exciting day! When we arrived we were put into a pool with other schools: Hylands, Crownfield, Oakfields and Harold Wood.

Our first match was against Oakfields, It was a fantastic start, Megan passed the ball well to Ella and Reece. Reece had a few shots on target! Zain and Mia worked tirelessly in defence and the game resulted in a 0-0 draw.

Our second game was against a much tougher Harold Wood team. There was some excellent defending from Lucy and Henry. And excellent movement from Ruby as C. Sachi and Wumi had a tough job scoring against a tall attacking team. Unfortunately we lost this game 2-0.

Our third match was against an experienced Hylands squad. There was some fantastic link play from Reece, Ruby and Mia, which results in some attempted shots from Zain. Ella and Reece worked hard to defend. Everyone played very well but unfortunately it ended in a 2-0 defeat.

Our final match was against a very tall Harold Wood team. Lucy was outstanding as C and had many interceptions. Fantastic passing in the circle meant both Henry and Megan had a shot on target. Wumi and Sachi were excellent in defence and the final score was a 0-0 draw!

Overall we had a fantastic fun day, we played extremely well, against some strong opposition (many of the children were in year 6 children) and we are looking forward to returning next year! Thank you to all the parents that came to support, Mrs Rawlings and Mr Gentle!

Netball V Elm Park

On Tuesday Suttons primary had it's first netball match against Elm Park Primary. It was an away match so after school on Tuesday 10 eager and excited children travelled on the mini-bus to Elm Park.

When we got there we knew we would have a challenge as most of the children were in year 5 and 6 and very tall. But we were excited for the game ahead. Elm Park had a good start and scored 3 goals but we got one back thanks to some excellent passing from Mia (yr4), Ifa (yr6) and Lucy (yr4) and scoring from Ruby(yr4). The next quarter started well and although Elm Park scored a few more we got two goals back thanks to some brilliant shots from Frankie (yr6). Isabella (y6), Zena (y5) and Wumi (yr4) did an excellent job in defence and intercepted many balls.  In the last quarter our super subs, Henry (y4) and Zain (yr4) gave the game us excellent speed and passing and we almost had a few more goals. Unfortunately we lost 10-3 but all the children played so well and we were really please with our first match. We are looking forward to playing some more game next term.

Thank you to Mr Gentle for taking us, Mrs Humphries for umpiring and all the parents who came to support.

Suttons Gardening Club Begins To Bloom

Spring Has Arrived At Suttons School

At Suttons School the gardening club braved the cold of winter last January to plant a variety of bulbs in the playground beds. Hoping that as the warmer weather of Spring arrived we would have a show of colour with the bulbs coming into bloom.

The Gardening club members have been delighted with the results of their work so far. Many of the bulbs were eaten by squirrels or have been dug up by foxes and neighbouring cats, but the ones that have survived have given the much needed dash of colour at the end of a long Winter season.

The Gardening Clubs next challenge is to get the school garden ship shape for the up and coming growing season. We have already been weeding the large raised beds in the garden area on the field and will be giving the flower beds around the playground some weeding attention too. We will be planting a mixture of vegetables and flowers in the garden after the Easter holidays and are looking forward to some bumper crops to share with the school.

Gardening club is held every Thursday at 12:30, we are always happy to welcome new members to the group. If you are interested in joining please contact Miss Platt in Year 3

Choir - December 2014

We just wanted to say how proud we were of all of the children who attended Music for Christmas with the Havering Singers on Saturday 20th December.  They were amazing!!

Thank you for all turning up for rehearsal and the performance on time and for being very smart and an ambassador for our School.

We have received letters from the Havering singers to say thank you and how excellent we were.

We hope that you enjoyed the night as much as we did.

KS1 Maths Pioneers

KS1 Maths Club
A fresh and innovative club starting in January to trial an engaging game based approach to maths assesment.

What is it?
Children will be challenged and 'pitted' against each other to answer on multiplication, addition and subtraction of increasing difficulty. They can decide between easy or difficult questions with  students being rewarded for answering the more difficult worksheets.

Teacher made to meet the new curriculum!
The paper based game has been designed by Mr Pawley based on the New National Maths Curriculum and set to meet the Assessment Principles set by the government. The game scales with the end of year targets from Year 1 to Year 4 and aims to provide an innovative method of assessment that children will enjoy.

Who is it for?
Year 1 and 2 students willing to test their maths ability. Only a select few will be chosen!

When is it?
Twice a week; once at Wednesday lunchtime and once after school, the day will be decided after the students have been chosen depending on when they are available.

Children will be asked the week starting 5th January if they are interested and the club will start within the next 2 weeks. Please see Mr Pawley for more information.
