1MS - Why is it important to wash your hands before you eat?

Why is it important to wash your hands before you eat?

Year 1 explored this question by taking part in a science experiment. We firstly rubbed our hands on a piece of bread. We then washed our hands and rubbed them on another piece of bread.

We spoke about what we think would happen to the two pieces of bread. The children predicted that the 'dirty hands' bread would have a lot of mould and bacteria.

Some children also explained that the 'clean hand' bread might also become mouldy as it will go past its expiry date.

We left the bread for 2 weeks and then looked at the results....

We spoke about why it is important to wash our hands and the consequences of not washing our hands before we eat.
