Hop aboard the Year 2 jet to Africa!

Last week, Year 2 dressed in their travelling clothes and hopped aboard Jet2 and flew to Africa!

First the children had to make their own boarding passes and passports using lots of interesting language to describe themselves and their destination (literacy).

Their first stop was Ghana where they applied their maths knowledge of 2D shapes to design geometric repeating patterns on tiles

before printing their African patterns onto fabric.

Next we visited Uganda and used our DT skills to design and create an African inspired Fruit Salad. The children enjoyed tasting new and exotic fruit such as Mango, Sharon fruit and Avocado.

In Ethiopia we used our ICT skills to research the different types of African flag before we drew, coloured and made them.

In Kenya we made African animal masks...

and necklaces inspired by the Masai tribe

Finally, we visited Cameron and made some African inspired drums.

At the end of the day parents were invited into class to look at all the wonderful work the children have created both at home and at school.

Year 2 - Science week!

As part of science week, Year 2 combined the theme of journeys with their topic on plants to design and make perfume!

There were 7 different activity stations for the children to try incorporating lots of different Maths, ICT, Geography, Literacy, DT as well as Science skills.

As part of ICT this term the children are learning what it means to be a 'researcher.' They used the skills they have learnt to discover all of the different parts of the world that the plants we are studying have come from.

Next, they used their maths skills to create a year-group bar graph of their favourite smells.

Then, they had to look, smell & feel to guess the plants.

After that, they smelt all of the different fragrances using lots of descriptive words to describe them.

We even got a visit from Mrs Moore who asked us to make her some special perfume.

At last, they got to make their perfume using their 3 favourite fragrances.

Finally, they had to think of a suitable
name for their perfume and design a suitable, eye-catching bottle.

Lots of fun was had by all!

London Eye 4JI

Throughout this half term 4JI have been learning about London, and have researched and studied the population, monuments, differences from 100 years ago and much more!!

So what better place to go and visit than the London Eye, where the children were able to see all the different monuments that they have been studying.

The children absolutely loved this experience, and even got the chance to visit the 4D cinema, that enthralled them all!
