Year 4 DK – Science Fair Investigations
In our upcoming Science topic we will be
investigating Electricity, these are some of the objectives we will be covering
in our topic.
Objectives
to be covered:
|
Science
Y4: Electricity
· Identify common
appliances that run on electricity
· Construct a simple
series electrical circuit, identifying and naming its basic
parts,
including cells, wires, bulbs, switches and buzzers
· Identify whether
or not a lamp will light in a simple series circuit, based on
whether or not the lamp is part of a complete loop with a battery
· Recognise that a
switch opens and closes a circuit and associate this with whether or not a lamp lights in a simple
series circuit
· Recognise some common conductors and
insulators and associate metals with being good conductors.
|
For the Suttons science fair you might like
to develop some of these ideas!
· To
find electricity powered appliances at home to understand how dependant we have
become on electricity.
· Design
and make a torch you can turn on or off
· Design
and make a working model of a lighthouse
· Alternative
methods of making electricity – as we move away from fossil fuels how will we
keep our homes, industries and transport running?
Or
some questions to investigate…
Which brand of batteries last the
longest? What materials produce static electricity? How fast does electricity
move? Which materials conduct electricity best? What causes a static shock>?
Can we use fruit & veg as electricity?
Or
any question of your own relating to the objectives above.
Question : what do
you want to find out
|
|
Prediction :what do you
think will happen
|
|
Materials : list
everything you will need to set up your experiment
|
|
Procedure : step by step
instructions how you carried out your experiment
|
|
Results: -:what did you
find out
