For National Science Week, the children at Suttons
enjoyed learning all about changes in a series of experiments!
Year 6 were investigating what happens when you mix a
Berocca tablet with water, and whether the resultant change is reversible or irreversible.
We carefully crushed our Berocca tablet into powder, poured
the powder into a balloon using a funnel, squirted water into a test tube using
a pipette, put the opening of the balloon over the top of the test tube, then
shook the Berocca powder into the water…
As you can see, the water and Berocca mix fizzed like
mad! Together they produced so much gas that our balloons began to swell right up!
We learned that this is proof that is was an irreversible change, because irreversible changes result in a new
substance being created – in this case, gas!
