Year 1 - Floating and Sinking

As part of the 'Take One Picture' project, year 1 have been asked to focus on the theme of transport. In the picture 'Men of the Docks', a large ship is a focal point of the painting.

For our first cross-curricular link, we investigated floating and sinking in Science. How and why do some things float?

Year 1 were given a piece of plasticine and had to experiment with the shape of the plasticine to see what shape would be best for floating.

The children tried various shapes and experimented with the thickness of the plasticine. They eventually discovered that a boat like shape is best. We discussed the reasons why which led to some amazing, scientific conversations!

Well done to Harry who was the first person to make his plasticine float!

Year 1MS - Art Workshop

Year 1 were lucky enough to be invited to an art workshop at Sanders School.

The children were introduced to watercolour paints and how to effectively use them to paint a picture. The children put their skills to the test by drawing a flower and then painted the drawing by using watercolour paints.

Thank you for having us Sanders! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

London Eye 4JI

Throughout this half term 4JI have been learning about London, and have researched and studied the population, monuments, differences from 100 years ago and much more!!

So what better place to go and visit than the London Eye, where the children were able to see all the different monuments that they have been studying.

The children absolutely loved this experience, and even got the chance to visit the 4D cinema, that enthralled them all!
