Anti-Bullying Week: 18th-22nd November

It’s Anti-Bullying week from 18th to 22nd November.

Mrs Blake is leading a project on ‘Behaviour and Anti-Bullying.’

Over the past two terms we have involved with Lesley, from the BYT drama group; she’s focused on leading sessions to help us ‘respect and get along with one another.’  As years two and four missed these sessions, Lesley will be back into school on Monday 25th November to work with them.
Part of this project involves us developing a ‘Suttons Primary School Anti-Bullying Charter’. We’ll begin by writing our own definition of what bullying means to us, and then each class will add a statement/piece of advice on how to deal with bullying. We’re publishing some ‘Living Posters’, which will show photographs of children in our school who exemplify our ethos of ‘working well together’.  These posters will be on display by the end of the month.
Part of the project will be led by Louise O’Connor, a specialist from the Behaviour Support Service. On Wednesday 20th November she will lead a practical session with some children so she can survey how they feel about ‘unfriendly behaviour’.  We are very keen to listen to parents’ views and would like to encourage you to come along to an Anti-Bullying Parents’ Forum led by Louise on Wednesday 20th November between 2 and 3pm in the school hall.  We are keen to hear your views.
We hope that by listening to parents, pupils and staff we can help to continue to promote respect, friendship and teamwork across the school.

A Fantastic French Day

Staff and pupils celebrated the launch of teaching French as a Modern Foreign Language this week.
This term all children from year two up visited the National Gallery, in London, to study ‘The Bathers at Asnieres’ by Georges Seurat. As part of the gallery’s Take-One-Picture Project pupils produced some stunning pieces of work and hosted an exhibition in the school hall. Some children recreated the painting; others made models, imagined what it would be like to be one of the characters in the picture or researched life in France during the nineteenth century.
On Thursday 24th October everyone dressed up as people from French speaking countries. At lunchtime they ate a delicious French meal. Then in the afternoon, the ‘Friends of Suttons’ organised a balloon race. All children released either a blue, white or red balloon. The balloons looked spectacular against the bright blue sky. The day was great fun. A day all the children will remember for a long time!

Harvest Festival 2013

Today pupils across the school came together for our Harvest Festival Assembly. Each year group presented a small item to the school based on this. Thank you to those Parents/Carers who were able to come to this event.

As usual, our families have greatly supported this event by donating food for the Rainham Food Bank.  This is a worthwhile local charity which helps families in need.

Thank you to everyone for your support.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

After a day of baking the pupils of Suttons Primary were ready for their coffee morning.  Parents, carers and pupils joined us from 8.00am for a morning 'cupper' over freshly home/school baked cakes, scones and biscuits.

The morning was a huge success raising £342 for this worthwhile charity.

Thank you to our sponsors for the donation of fantastic raffle prizes.

Juggling, Juggling, Juggling ..........

On Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th September, the staff undertook training on how learners learn best.   We discussed how a child feels as learner.

To the horror of the staff they have been asked to step into the shoes of a learner and learn how to Juggle.

On Thursday 28th November, staff will need to successfully juggle 3 balls at least 10 times in front of the children in assembly.

Do you know who is practising in these pictures?

Welcome Back

We hope you had a enjoyable summer and that your children's batteries have been recharged ready for the jam-packed calendar of events that we have planned for the autumn term. Today has been an exciting day at school as pupils caught up with their friends and settled into their new classes.

As we begin the new school year, we would like to warmly welcome our new members of staff. These include our Miss Steel (Yr5), Miss Staples (Y3), Mr Price (Y1) Mrs Daisley (Rec) and Mrs Lacey (Y2) - all who have enjoyed their first day teaching at Suttons.
